3 open PhD/postdoc positions with NCCR EvolvingLangauge

We look for three candidates to investigate (1) how interdependence, mutual gaze, amygdala anatomy and communicative complexity are interrelated across species; (2) whether there is evidence for emerging proto-normativity in call usage and understanding in common marmosets and chimpanzees; and (3) call combinations in marmosets and whether they have a conversational function,

(1) >>> Social Foundations of Langauge and Communication

(2) >>> Proto-normativity

(3)>>> Marmoset call combinations

Depending on the project, we are looking for candidates who excel in experimental design, statistics and data science, machine learning, have an interest in working with cutting-edge technologies such as infrared thermography and of course enjoy observing and working with nonhuman primates.

Earliest start is in June 2024, we start reviewing applications from April 15, 2024.

Master thesis in our ERC project >>ENGINE

We are looking for master students to join our ERC engine project in Zürich. How do marmoset social bonds and networks change if their environment requires them to work together to overcome daily challenges? If such environmental interdependence changes their social style, this has far-reaching consequences for understanding human evolution!
